Thurrock
battled back to earn a point away to fellow playoff contenders Welling
at Park View Road. Welling took the lead as early as the 6th
minute when Danny Kedwell scored from Che Stadart’s cross. Thurrock’s
best moment of the half came when Martin Carthy beat the keeper only to
see Chris Moore chase back and clear off of the line. Welling came close
to doubling their lead as the half drew to a close when Kedwell’s
instinctive shot was saved by former Welling keeper Glenn Knight.

Welling should have scored early in the second half but Knight did well
to tip over from Stadart’s header. Stadart wasted another opportunity
just after when he failed to control a ball which had sent him clear and
Knight collected. Thurrock equalised with just over ten minutes left.
Substitute Tom Beech, making his debut, was brought down in the box and
Steve Harper confidently slotted home. Moments later a great move
between Julian Edwards and Harper nearly found Beech with an open goal
but a Welling foot stopped the debutant from giving Fleet an unlikely
victory. Stadart had two late chances to give Welling the points but
shot wide on both occasions.
