Yeading
must like their visits to Ship Lane as last Saturday was the seventh
occasion they have been here and they are yet to taste defeat. A
goal in the 54th minute from Marvin Morgan was enough to
see Yeading to a 1-0 victory and at the same time condemn us to our
fifth consecutive League defeat. The first forty-five minutes was a
fairly even affair with neither goal keeper having to work hard.
Manny Williams was the first on target for the visitors but his
effort lacked power and was easily taken by keeper Billy McMahon.
In the twenty-third minute Morgan’s long range shot
was wide and a few minutes later Williams headed just over from a
left wing cross. For ourselves a Richard Goddard free kick was
headed on by Steve Harper to Richard Pacquette whose shot was
comfortably saved by Yeading keeper Billy Blackmore. Yeading went
in front in the fifty-fourth minute. Our defence failed to halt a
run from midfield by Errol Telemaque. Telemaque played the ball to
Williams, who in turn found Morgan who turned in from the right to
shoot past McMahon.
A minute later we had a good shout for a penalty turned down.
Following a Kris Lee corner Ronnie Fletcher played the ball into the
area. Goddard appeared to be pushed as he tried to control the ball
but the referee waived play on. In the 57th minute the
ball was played down the middle to Harper but his control let him
down for anything to come of the chance. From then on neither side
looked like scoring which meant that 593 minutes had passed since we
last found the net.
