Thurrock lost their eighth consecutive game against  table toppers Weymouth after a poor second half performance. Weymouth started quickly and nearly scored after nine minutes when Steve Clarke was sent clear. Glen Knight charged out of his goal and blocked Clarke’s attempt. Two minutes later another opportunity went begging for the visitors when Clarke was again denied by a brilliant Knight save from point blank range. The ball then looped in the air and Knight rushed back to clear off of the line as the visitors claimed a goal. Thurrock then started to come back into the game and Garry Cross played a one-two with Richard Goddard and went clear. Cross then shot inches wide. The hosts continued to press and Dave Sadler had a shot saved from close range after an excellent cross by Kris Lee.

The second half was a different matter with Weymouth by far the better side. They pressured from the kick-off and it was no surprise when they took the lead with twenty minutes of the second half gone. Clarke received the ball back to goal on the halfway line. He spun Mark Goodfellow and beat Jimmy McFarlane before smashing the ball past Knight from 20 yards. The second goal followed soon after with Nade curling the ball home after getting in between the Thurrock centre halves. Thurrock didn’t look like getting back into the game but did pull a goal back with seconds on the clock when Lee tapped home substitute Richard Pacquette’s driven cross but it was too little too late.
