Colin McBride split his squad between two friendlies on Tuesday night to ensure that everyone could get 90 minutes under their belt, with Richard Goddard captaining the side as McFarlane and Purdie were at Hornchurch with the rest of the squad.

In the first 10 minutes Enfield’s intention were made clear,  the ball was chipped out to the left and picked up by new signing Boniek Forbes whose lighting pace took him down to the corner flag  where the Enfield number 4 lunged in with a dreadful late tackle for which he only received a booking.

After 19 minutes a good ball from the back found Harper in space, although there was a question of offside Harper strode purposely forward before unleashing an unstoppable right footed drive into the bottom left hand corner of the Enfield goal.

Thurrock were then indebted to Billy McMahon who made two good saves low down.

Thurrock continued to edge the first half, with player/coach Jason Broom putting in a very impressive display in the midfield, over a physical Enfield side and deservedly went in at half time one nil up.

In the second half a couple of substitution disrupted the play slightly, but the good news was that one of the subs was Martyn Lawrence making his return from injury.

The ever lively Forbes was the main supply line for Thurrock; however the final ball was a let down. Forbes and trialist McCarthy both had shots from long range that went just over.

Enfield then suddenly sparked into life with three 3 goal in an 8 minute spell which killed the game however there was still time for one goal and it fell to Craig O’Conner. Thurrock won a free kick 25 yards out from goal and Collis smashed the free, which the goal keeper could only just get a finger to – fortunately O’Conner show all his predatory skill by tucking the ball over the line from two foot out.
