Thurrock edge Salisbury in the
heat
On another hot sunny day Colin continued his pre-season preparation with another committed display at Southern League Salisbury City. The first half saw new signings Harper and O'Conner partnered up front for the first time, with the pacy Boniek Forbes down the left. From the off Thurrock knew that they were going to get a good work out early on when Adam Parker was tackled from behind, this unfortunately lead to a scrappy battle between a couple of players which eventually lead to Parker being booked for an over zealous tackle, and the Salisbury number 9 for swinging a punch. Captain Jimmy McFarlane broke the deadlock with a toe poke from 5 yards, which the referee allowed despite what looked like a foul on the keeper. As is usual with friendlies the wholesale changes at half time took a little of the niggle out of the game, amongst others Billy McMahon, Bradley Stevens, Glenn Poole, Jason Broom and Kris Lee all made appearances as did John Purdie who is coming back from the injury that kept him out at the end of last season. Most of the good work, in the second half, came from Lee Hodges - but mainly from long range. Billy McMahon made one excellent save when diving to his left he managed to stick out his right hand flicking the ball over for a corner. As the game petered out, with the heat obviously taking it toll on the players, Kris Lee had a couple of half chances and Hodges made the keeper pull off a good save. Thurrock (first half) - Knight, Fletcher, Davidson, Goddard, McFarlane, Forbes, Heffer, Bowes, O'Conner, Harper, Parker. |
