Lewes 0 - 0 Thurrock

Thurrock ended their eight match losing streak with a draw against playoff contenders Lewes. The first half was a dull affair with neither side coming close to scoring although Paul Kennett went close with a long range effort. The main event of the half was a horrendous foul on Garry Cross by a Lewes defender which resulted in hospital attention being necessary for the Thurrock midfielder. The second half saw a lot more action and Thurrock should have scored but Steve Harper shot over wildly after he had brilliantly got the better of the defence. Thurrock continued to press and Sam Sloma shot just over from long range, the ball dipping just too late. Kris Lee was then unlucky after he controlled on his chest and volleyed, the shot went straight down the keeper’s throat. In fact, he caught it too well. Lewes nearly snatched the points in the last minute when Karl Beckford shot wide with just Glen Knight to beat. In injury time the game turned nasty when a Lewes full back grabbed Lee by the throat but was only booked. The game was spoiled in part by a terrible refereeing display by Alison Chapman who was too slow to try and control the game early on, failing to book players who deserved them and then flashing out the cards after control had been lost.
