Colin McBride decided to keep the same side that got a creditable draw at Eastbourne on Tuesday night but after a poor game that neither side deserved to win, Thurrock came away from Cherrywood Road with a point.

A dull first half saw few chances with Pattison going close for Boro with a volley after 12 minutes. One brief moment of interest at Thurrock’s end came when Kevin Scriven in the Boro goal was harshly adjudged to have handled outside the box. Scriven was booked and then comfortably held on to the poor free kick from Lee Hodges. On the half hour Fleet were grateful to keeper Glenn Knight when he held well from Gibbs’ shot.

The second half was little better with Knight again rescuing Thurrock on the hour when a mistake from Jimmy McFarlane let Boro in. The closest Fleet went was when Boniek Forbes’ clever dummy let in Mark Goodfellow, whose shot went over the bar. Boro did come close with five minutes to go through Gibbs but Knight again saved well.

Man of the Match: Glenn Knight

Thurrock: Knight, Collis, Goodfellow, McFarlane ©, Goddard, Hodges (Forbes 61), Bowes, Carthy, Heffer, Lee (Harper 55), O’Connor.
