Thurrock’s
poor run continued as they were put to the sword by Eastleigh. With
Steve Harper missing Thurrock looked lacking in goals up front but had
the first chance of the game after only 8 minutes when Steve Heffer’s
excellent cross field pass was met by Mark Janney, whose shot was
blocked. Moments later Ryan Ashford picked out Steve Forbes for
Eastleigh but Mark Goodfellow’s excellent tackle saw off the danger.
Eastleigh continued to pressure and had chances to score the first
through Marshall and Steve Forbes with the latter’s chance seeing the
ball rebound off of the crossbar. The goal looked like it was coming and
three minutes before the interval it did. Andy Forbes put over an
excellent cross and David Town smashed the ball home on the half volley.
Eastleigh
came out flying for the second period and Andy Forbes smashed a volley
against the crossbar minutes after kick off. The second was always
coming and it came for home captain Danny Smith who slotted home from
the edge of the box. The third was not long in coming and it was tapped
home by Steve Forbes after his namesake Andy’s shot was parried into his
path by Knight. Eastleigh eased off the gas and coasted home as Fleet
lost their second consecutive league game.
