Cambridge City 6 - 0 Thurrock
Simpson 12,21,24,52
Purdie og 20
Booth 57

Thurrock were put to the sword by Cambridge City after a poor display. In truth Fleet started the brighter and Mark Janney went close early on. This was as good as it got as Cambridge started to swarm all over Thurrock. Robbie Simpson scored the first with a header from Paul Booth’s cross. After twenty minutes the lead was doubled when Dale Binns took the ball around Mark Goodfellow and crossed low. John Purdie tried to intercept but could only divert the ball past Glenn Knight. A minute later Simpson scored another as the Fleet defence struggled to handle their hosts’ pace. After 23 minutes Thurrock were down to 10 men when captain Jimmy McFarlane was sent off for the first time in his career. This loss was compounded a minute later when Simpson scored his hat trick.

The second half was all about damage limitation but Cambridge did manage two more goals with Simpson adding another and Booth adding to his already impressive goal tally for the season.
