WOEFUL AT WESTON
Weston-Super-Mare 2 - 1 Thurrock

Jenkins 58

  Parker 25
McKeever 64

Thurrock lost to Weston with a poor performance in a real game of two halves. They started the brighter, with Glenn Poole firing a twenty yard effort just wide after two minutes. Moments later, Poole’s cross was headed goalwards by John Buffong, but Ryan Northmore in the Weston goal caught comfortably. Thurrock’s Kris Lee had to go off injured in only the sixth minute, with an ankle injury and he was replaced by Adam Parker. The next twenty minutes saw few chances, but the next chance was to see a goal - Dave Collis’ weighted ball invited Poole to cross and Parker flicked past Northmore into the corner of the goal as the Weston defenders stood and claimed offside. Weston’s response was almost instantaneous, Billy Clark heading over from Mark McKeever’s pinpoint corner. Craig Davidson was the next Thurrock player to limp off injured. He was replaced by Ryan Kirby with Collis moving to left back and Kirby slotting in at right back. After 33 minutes Steve Jenkins shot well over from close range when it looked easier to score after Andy Woodman had failed to clear Jon French’s cross.

Thurrock didn’t really turn up for the second half and it was surprising that it took Weston until 58 minutes to create a real opening. When they did, they scored! McKeever’s free kick was headed in by Jenkins for the equaliser. Six minutes later Weston took the lead. Hogg’s through ball found McKeever who drilled home past Woodman. Captain Jimmy McFarlane was the last Thurrock player to go off injured, when he fell awkwardly. Thurrock didn’t look like getting an equaliser and Weston deservedly took the points.
