Thurrock won their first game in the defence of their Essex Senior Cup with a comprehensive victory over troubled Hornchurch. Shane Thompson was the star of the show, starting the scoring with a wonderful curling effort into the top corner of the goal from 18 yards out. He then scrambled the ball through to Simon Martin who prodded home from close range at the second attempt. Thurrock were in control, with Fernandon Emmanuel pulling the strings in midfield and with Bradley Walsh holding the ball up well alongside Martin. The game was over in the 34^th minute, when Thompson got his second of the game with a far post header. The second half was a calmer affair, with Emmanuel still pulling bossing the midfield and playing some excellent short range passes. Thurrock scored a late fourth when Emmanuel sent Danny Dobson through and he slotted past Madden in the Urchin’s goal.
