Although it was Sergei Rebrov that the visiting fans came to see it was home favourites Cliff Akurang and Tresor Kandol that stole the show.

Colin McBride started off with a number of new players all trying to play into his plans for the forth coming season. Kris Lee and Simon Martin had a couple of chances early on with efforts going narrowly wide.

Rebrov showed good skills on the ball but Thurrock Stalwarts Purdie and Heffer kept West Ham to long range efforts. As the first half drew to a close Paul Gothard was called into action a couple of times – with one excellent close range save.

A number of substitutions where made by both sides with Rebrov being replaced by Clive Allen’s son, Ollie and Thurrock replacing Martin & Lee with Kandol & Akurang, club captain Jimmy McFarlane came in for Goddard and Plummer came into the midfield.

Thurrock were now on top and passing the ball well, a couple of half chances fell to TK who shot just wide after good work from Plummer and Akurang.

West Ham took the lead after 70 minutes when Ollie Allen lobbed Paul Gothard from 10 yards after hesitation in the Thurrock defence. The lead did not last long as Cliff Akurang slotted the ball home at the second attempt after West Ham keeper Matthew Reed dropped the ball.
