Both teams will be happy with the point earned at Ship Lane after an even encounter. Welling were the quicker out of the blocks and put the Thurrock defence under heavy pressure. That pressure paid off after only ten minutes when Paul Booth smashed a shot in off the underside of the bar after Thurrock had failed to clear a corner. Thurrock started to come back into the game and were unlucky not to get an immediate equaliser when Tresor Kandol headed just wide from Glenn Poole’s free kick. The equaliser did come halfway through the half. The referee blew for a handball against James Smith even though it seemed accidental. Poole stepped up and smashed the ball into the left hand of the goal, sending Charlie Mitten the wrong way.

The second half was a quieter affair with Jamie Day coming close in the 50th minute when his long range effort was tipped over the bar by Thurrock keeper Andy Woodman. Both sides seemed content with points up until the last five minutes when they both had chances to win it. Ian Wiles went close with a deflected effort for Welling and Thurrock captain Jimmy McFarlane headed just wide in injury time from Dave Collis’ pinpoint corner.
