Thurrock made in four out four against a hard working Hornchurch side.

The early minutes were spent feeling each other out, the first real action coming from Thurrock. Glenn Poole crossed to Tresor Kandol who headed down for Brayley blaze over from 15 yards.

On 18 minutes Kandol powered in to the box, beating two Hornchurch players before being brought down – only for the referee to wave play on. Thurrock continued to make most of the play, but could not break down a stubborn Hornchurch defence, well marshalled by ex-Thurrock favourite Jamie Southon.

With halftime approaching David Collis tried a long range effort, which Micky Desborough fumbled out for a corner. Collis over hit the corner, before it fell to Steve Heffer on the Thurrock right, he sprayed the ball out wide to Brayley who crossed to the back post for Jimmy McFarlane to head home. Thurrock attacked from the restart, Desborough produced an excellent save low down to his right from Kandol’s header.

The second half was much of the same with Thurrock making most of the play, Poole going close on a couple of occasion, before a flurry of substitutions broke up the game.

In the last few minutes Hornchurch had a couple of half chances when Andy Douglas dribbled into the box, but could find no way pass the excellent McFarlane and Purdie.

In the last minute Poole crossed for substitute Buffong to head just over.
