Excellent performances from Dave Collis and new signing Dwayne Plummer led to Thurrock’s first pre-season victory. Thurrock started well and passed the ball around without creating any clear cut chances when they unluckily went behind the ball was flicked over Gothard in the 17th minute to give Dagenham the lead.

On 26 minutes a great run by Plummer led to a corner after he was tackled when pulling back the trigger. Thurrock battled back well and were on level terms two minutes later. A free kick was given for a foul on Plummer and Collis’ quality free kick was powered home by Kris Lee’s header. Lee was on fire, and was unlucky to volley just wide two minutes later.

On 33 minutes Thurrock took the lead, Plummer’s quick footwork gave Collis time to put another excellent cross over and this time TK was on hand to head home. Dagenham, however were not going to lie down. A volleyed shot was well held by Goths and a minute before the break Sedgemore levelled the scores at 2-2 with a well-placed volley.

The second half was a quieter affair with Simon Martin missing a gilt edged chance on the hour after being put through by Plummer. Goths made another good save against his former club on 72 minutes and the game looked to be heading for a draw. This changed on 82 when Thurrock took a deserved lead. A great run by Lee Allen ended with a slide rule pass to Martin who coolly slotted home.
