Match photo's Thurrock were outclassed by a team whose passing game was far superior. Early on Nightingale broke clear only to be denied low down by Paul Gothard. After a quiet opening 20 minutes, which Bognor had controlled, they scored their first. Wonderful passing and movement led to Guy Rutherford slotting past Gothard. The second goal was suicidal. Thurrock were attacking up the left flank when Davidson’s woeful pass was intercepted and the through ball left the defence turning. Nightingale was clear on goal and drilled hard and low past Gothard.
Thurrock tried to fight back and
Kris Lee’s header went just over from Collis’ free kick. Steve Heffer was
unlucky to see his 25-yard effort go just over the bar. The game was killed in
the 40th minute. Nightingale headed in from close range after a
wonderful cross by Rutherford. Woeful marking led to the forth-in first half
injury time when Watson slotted home.
Thurrock came out for the second
half with Marc Goodfellow and John Buffong replacing Kirby and Collis. They held
the ball much better second half whilst rarely threatening. Lee was unlucky to
see two efforts go narrowly over. Bognor wrapped up the game with a minute to go
when Rutherford beat the onrushing Gothard and squeezed the ball home from a
tight angle. Thurrock:
