Thurrock eased through their 2nd round qualifying game away to Halstead with a comfortable victory. Fleet looked the better side from the off and were always a step quicker than their opponents. Lee Hodges was unlucky with an effort in the 7th minute which the keeper did well to save but it wasn’t long before the first goal game with Shane Thompson netting his first Thurrock goal with an acrobatic overhead kick from Martyn Lawrence’s cross. Thurrock were always a yard quicker and Halstead had two players booked for mistimed challenges on Hodges and Heffer. Tresor Kandol was also unlucky to see his header bounce back from the angle of post and bar after another fine delivery from Lawrence. A minute before half time Halstead nearly grabbed an undeserved equaliser. Jimmy McFarlane was booked for bringing down a Halstead forward just outside the box after being exposed by Dave Collis losing the ball in the middle of the park. The free kick was well delivered and Billy McMahon had to be alert to catch a header from 2 yards out.

Thurrock killed the game with two goals in six minutes either side of the hour. Hodges scored a penalty after being fouled himself and Cliff Akurang scored after out muscling three defenders. Thurrock went through the motions through to full time to set up a mouth-watering clash away to AFC Wimbledon.
