Colin McBride fielded a very strong side and but for a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing it could have been a wider winning margin.

Thurrock got into the groove early with new signing Richard Goddard causing all sort of problems for the concord back line. Both Kandol and Akurang has chances but just could not squeeze the ball over the line in the face of stout defending.

After some Concord pressure Paul Gothard spilled the ball and cleared to safety, picking up an injury in the process. Colin then substituted him as a precaution with Billy McMahon replacing him in the Thurrock goal.

In the 32nd minute a long thought ball was handled outside of the area by the Concord keeper - rightly, as this was a pre season friendly, the referee asked the goalkeeper to be changed instead of sending him off. Dave Collis hit the resulting free kick at the wall

Concord took the lead just after half time after confusion in the Thurrock defence. The referee then awarded us a penalty to the bewilderment of everyone in the ground. Plummer stepped up to take it but hit a poor effort straight at the keeper.

The lead was short lived and the Thurrock attacking machine was coming together, a series of crosses from the right were well cleared until Kandol out leaped everyone at the far post to head past the despairing keeper.

Five minutes later it was 2-1 Martyn Lawrence, on as a sub, crossed for Kandol to again score with his head at the far post.

Dwayne Plummer was asked to leave the field by the referee, for what I can only think was dissent.

A lot of good points to come out of the match with Marc Goodfellow playing the full ninety minutes and Richard Goddard look very comfortable.
