Fleet had to work hard to get three points against a St. Albans side that spent most of the first half camped in the Thurrock half.
After two minutes Saints hit the post. A long clearance was headed by Collis straight to a Saints centre forward who was clear on Goths but his shot hit the upright with Goths beaten. Saints were pushing forwards and Fleet seemed to be unable to get a grip on the game.
That all changed in the 16th minute. A hopeful cross was dropped by the Saints keeper under pressure from TK and Simon Martin nipped in to tap home from a yard out. Ten minutes after that a woeful kick out by Goths went straight to a Saints forward who raced clear. Goths managed to save the shot and redeem himself.
The rest of the half petered out and Fleet were happy to go into the dressing room one nil up.
Early in the second half the lead was nearly doubled. Bowesy got the ball and ran at the defence and his shot was deflected just wide. Without creating any chance Saints were passing the ball well and camping out in the Thurrock half. Thurrock broke out with twenty minute to go and TK was sent clear only to shoot at the keeper when most fancied him to score. Two minutes after, a quick breakout nearly doubled the lead. TK was over by the corner flag and lobbed the ball over his own head to Bowesy who found Linger on the edge of the box. His shot hit the post and Bowesy scored from the rebound only to be flagged offside.
Saints kept the pressure on and were unlucky in the last minute when Thurrock doubled their lead. Kris Lee who had just come on, passed to Akurang who slotted home from the edge of the area.
