TOWN TAKE POINTS

THURROCK F.C. 0 - 2 KETTERING TOWN
        Turner
        Norman (pen)

As with our bank holiday trip to Canvey we began much the brighter of the two sides, forcing the early play and enjoying the better possession.

Both teams worked hard and fought for every ball. Shots were of the premium and the only real shot the visitors had in the first half was dealt with comfortably by Paul Gothard. The Fleet supporters thought a goal was coming when Cliff Akurang chased a ball that for all intents and purposes looked to be going out of play but the Fleet hit man never gave it up. He rounded a defender to send in a telling cross to the far post where Dave Collins was unlucky to see his glancing header go wide.

The start of the second half saw the tempo of the game increase and after 7 minutes had gone the visitors went ahead when Turner headed home from a corner.  Incredibly only 3 minutes after the restart Fleet fell further behind when Mark Goodfellow was adjudged to have trip an attacker and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Kettering’s skipper Craig Norman converted the spot kick and it proved to be enough to win the game.

Despite all their hard work and effort Fleet could not find that extra slice of luck to get back into the game much to their disappointment.
