THURROCK F.C. 1 - 3 Hornchurch
Kandol (pen) 72       Keeling 26

West 57

Fleets recent run of good results came to a halt in this local derby. The early signs were good as Fleet won a corner and Tresor Kandol headed just over from Dave Collis’s corner kick.

The game was a fairly even contest and it took a deflected shot from former Fleet player Jon Keeling after 26 minutes to break the deadlock.

It was a keenly fought contest which, was mainly concentrated in the midfield area and thus not too much goalmouth action.

Paul Gothard made a save early in the second half when he tipped a shot over his crossbar for the safety of a corner. However the ball was not cleared from the resultant kick and suddenly Fleet found themselves trailing by two goal when Steve West fired home from close range after 57 minutes.

It was more or less the same pattern as the first half with the play being condensed to the central part of the field. Just as the clock showed 72 minutes Fleet were awarded a penalty and Tresor Kandol smashed the ball home giving Danny Gay no chance.

There was a sense that Fleet may snatch a point and there was a spell of panic in the visitors area. However just a little over ten minutes later Hornchurch scored from close range and that was enough to seal the three points.
