FORD UNITED 2 - 3 THURROCK F.C.
Poole       Kandol
Abraham       Akurang
        Lee

Last Tuesday at Oakside we recorded a 3-2 victory over Ford United with a very impressive performance.

The game could not have started more disastrously for us as within 37 seconds of the kick-off we had conceded at penalty.  Glenn Poole converted the spot kick to put the home side one up.

We did not allow this set back to deter us and were very unlucky not to equalise within the next few minutes, Ford keeper Jamie Lunan saved well from Paul Linger, and following a corner and free kick respectively shots were scrambled away by the Ford defence.

An equaliser had to come and did so in the 14th minute.  A ball from Kris Lee was played out to the left hand side to Terry Bowes.  The ball appeared to be too strong for Bowes but his determination saw him keep the ball in, and his perfect cross was met by Tresor Kandol to score from close range.

Within a minute Ford had regained the lead.  Hesitation within our defence saw Mervyn Abraham win the ball in mid-field and his shot gave keeper Paul Gothard no chance.

Five minutes later we had a great chance to equalise but in a one on one situation keeper Lunan got the better of Kandol.  We kept pressing and another equaliser just had to come.  Five minutes before half time we won a corner on the left hand side, David Collis’ kick being headed home by Cliff Akurang.

The first forty-five minutes had certainly been excellent entertainment for the spectators present.

What proved to be the winning goal came within a minute of the restart.  This time it was Kris Lee taking advantage of hesitation in the Ford defence.  Having won the ball his shot found the left hand corner of the net.

The cushion of an extra goal would not come and it was left to keeper Gothard to secure all three points for us when late in the game he made and excellent save from Ford substitute Robbie Reinelt.

In injury time Ford’s Alan McLeod was shown a red card for a wild tackle on Paul Linger.  After the disappointment of the game against Kettering it was nice to see such an outstanding all round performance from the team.
