Purfleet 0 West Ham XI 1

CAMARA STRIKE EARNS HAMMERS A PHOTO FINISH!

West Hams former Liverpool striker - Titi Camara scored an 84th minute goal, which earned the Hammers a slightly fortunate victory. Purfleet worked hard and created some good scoring chances, hitting the crossbar on two occasions.

As pre-season friendly matches go this turned out to be a highly entertaining game with both sides equally matched, playing hard for the win. Coach Ronnie Hanley said afterwards " we take a lot of positive things from our performance tonight, we really looked good".

After the game West Ham Chairman - Terry Brown said he had thoroughly enjoyed the game as did Hammers boss - Glen Roeder who said " I thought you worked us hard and I can see Purfleet doing well this season, I wish you every success".

After enjoying an equal share of the game the match was finally settled when a long through ball found Camara on the edge of the box where he weaved his way past his marker to slot the ball past Fleet keeper Alex O'Reilly. The overall feeling by many of the crowd was that a draw would have reflected a fair result, considering the fact that Fleet had been a whisker away on those two occasions when the woodwork denied them.
