Purfleet 0 Sutton United 2

SUTTON END FLEET'S RUN

In a match that Fleet had long spells of possession and control it seemed that another victory was there to be taken. The Purfleet side dominated the first half with the visitors rarely getting a sight of goal. It was a case of to many missed chances that perhaps on another day would have seen a rout.

Try as they might the Fleet forwards could not find a way past Andy Pape in the Sutton goal. Fleet skipper Jimmy McFarlane went the closest with a powerful headed that flew inches over the crossbar.
As it turned out it was one of those frustrating games that happens during the course of a season and is made all the more frustrating when the top spot is up for grabs.

Then totally against the run of play, Sutton found themselves a goal ahead thanks to Matt Fowler. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball somehow get to Fowler who struck it low through a crowd of players an take a deflection into Alex O'Reilly's far post.
The score remained the same till half time. Clearly the Sutton players sensed that this may be their night and again they had their keeper to thank when he made vital saves from substitute Steve Brown and Cliff Akurang.

Sutton put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute when Mark Watson headed home from close range to make it 2 - 0.

On a brighter note for boss Colin McBride was the return of defender Dean Chandler who played very well throughout the game.
