East Thurrock 0 Purfleet 3

WAYNE'S WORLD

A great solo effort from Paul Linger and a well-struck brace from Wayne Vaughan saw Fleet to a comfortable victory at Rookery Hill last night.

On a perfect evening for football the game was a lively affair and produced some exciting moments for the spectators. Colin McBride sent out a mixture of established players and those who are on the fringe.
One player worthy of a mention was Purfleet Youth player Jonathan Higgs, who played the full 90 minutes and equited himself very well.

The game was only minutes old when Vaughan saw his first shot of the game cannon off the crossbar.
Both sides had a few half chances and to their credit both keepers did well. With things all square at half time Colin made a couple of changes that is usual in friendlies.

Colin Simpson, a half time replacement for Steve Brown soon got into the action and worked the defenders hard.

A good ball played wide to the Purfleet right found Paul Linger who took on and got by his marker and then went past another, which now had him well inside the area, with everyone expecting him to square the ball he coolly struck it home to put the Fleet ahead.

Purfleet, now in complete control, upped the tempo once more and a good cross by Simpson was tucked away by Vaughan.

The next best effort saw Paul Linger strike what looked to be a perfect free-kick, only to see the ball hit the bar. With a few minutes remaining a rash challenge in the Thurrock area saw the referee award Fleet a penalty. This time Vaughan made no mistake when he stepped up to put the ball away a well-taken effort.
