HONOURS SHARED IN ESSEX DERBY

Purfleet bounced back from their surprise defeat at Enfield last weekend to play some of their best football of the season. It was a very good performance against a well organised Billericay side.

With three attackers, the visitors made life difficult for the Fleet defence who were without their inspirational skipper - Jimmy McFarlane, who was out through injury.
John Purdie and Dean Chandler played in the heart of the Fleet defence with Purdie having an outstanding game.

Craig Edwards, who recently signed from Grays played alongside Paul Linger in the central midfield area. Front men George Georgiou and Steve Browne worked hard keeping the Town defenders busy.

Goal scoring chances for both sides were limited to long range efforts with neither keeper having to make any desperate kind of save.

Fleet grew more confident as the second half progressed and took more control of the game and for a 25 minute spell looked the more likely to score. Brown and Georgiou both going close.

Perhaps the most guilt edged chance fell to Essandoh whom from close range headed wide as the game entered the final phase.
