Kingstonian 0 Purfleet 1
SPECIAL K In form Jon Keeling was again on the mark for Fleet as they took all three points from this fixture as they did in the corresponding game last term. The first half provided little in the way of goalmouth incident but plenty of great midfield play with Fleets Craig Edwards standing out. Most of the home sides' play was all neat and tidy but without any penetration through the Fleet defence, which again was in no mood to concede anything. Perhaps the warning signs were there when Jon Keeling twice outpaced his marker to commit his marker to the challenge. Cliff Akurang was a constant threat and worked hard alongside Kris Lee up front. It seemed as though the game would be a close affair being settled by a single goal, which would be either through a moment of magic or madness. On the stroke of 22 minutes it was a case of the latter. A mix up in the Kingstonian defence saw Jon Keeling latch onto a back pass from K's Clarke, which to the surprise of the home fans saw keeper Lance Key react late and when he did, Keeling was clever enough to go round him and score his third in two games. Fleet continued to search for a second and applied some long spells of pressure on the K's defence. As half time came and went it was clear that the Fleet defenders were more than up to the task of keeping their attacking counterparts at bay. Paul Linger was dictating much of the midfield play and this coupled with Craig Edwards driving the Fleet on it looked as though a second goal would come. However, it wasn't to be and the home side did create a couple of decent half chances, which saw Alex O'Reilly only making one save of real importance. Jamie Southon headed over and Keeling went close again. Lee Allen continued to maintain his recent good form, as did all the Fleet players. This win was K's first home defeat of the season and Fleets second away win in the space of a week after their defeat of Billericay Town at New Lodge. Colin McBride has molded together a group of players who are gaining in confidence all the time and the spirit in the dressing room is as good as it's ever been, with everyone playing their part.
