BOREHAM WOOD 0 - 0 PURFLEET

BORE DRAW MAINTAINS UNBEATEN START

Fleet maintained their unbeaten start to the season in what turned out to be a complete stalemate.

After the initial fast start to the game things settled into a contest where all too often the ball was given away to easily. To be fair both sides were guilty of this. Chances were few and far between and our closest effort came from Terry Bowes whose shot clipped the outside of the post. Wayne Vaughan saw his flicked effort go straight to the keeper.

It was all about the two defences and they did their jobs very well indeed denying the strikers any clear sight of goal. As half time beckoned you could sense that this game was going to be settled by either a fluke or a moment of brilliance. Perhaps the outcome was predictable.

The second half was a similar story only in this 45-minute period there were more clear chances. The home side was denied a goal when Terry Bowes cleared off his goal line from a corner. There was a couple of half chance for both teams. Fleet had a good penalty appeal waved away after Cliff Akurang appeared to be bought down in the area. Colin McBride sent on George Georgiou, Lee Allen and Dean Smith to freshen things up and Lee Allen was unlucky not to give Fleet the lead. The Fleet midfielder hit a 30-dipping volley, which went inches over the bar.

A late rally by Fleet saw them win a succession of corners but the ball never ran kindly for anyone to get the all-important touch. In the end a point apiece was a fair reflection of the game.
